How it works
Sync keeps files in the same state: deletion can also spread to other devices. A backup provides a route back to a saved state. A separate storage location, an available version and a tested restore matter more than the number of devices.
What to check and do
- Identify what you cannot afford to lose and where a separate copy is kept. Protect access; do not leave an external backup drive connected all the time.
- Check your service’s official help for version history, deleted-file retention and restore instructions. Use multifactor sign-in for the cloud account.
- Practise with a harmless dummy file. Restore a copy to another folder without overwriting the original, then open it and check its contents. Nothing needs to be sent to the Academy.
Learning scenario
Learning example: a study note was deleted from a synced laptop folder and disappeared from the phone too. Two devices were not two independent copies.
Self-check
Your answer stays on this page until it is closed or reloaded. No real passwords, codes or documents are needed. The result is not a security certificate.
Important limits
Recovery is not guaranteed: capabilities and retention depend on the service and settings. This is a general learning principle, not the company’s security policy. Do not use documents, passwords or codes in the exercise.
Primary sources
Learning materials can reduce mistakes but do not guarantee protection from every threat. Not investment advice.
